"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever"
- Mahatma Gandhi
“Studying whether there’s life on Mars or studying how the universe began, there’s something magical about pushing back the frontiers of knowledge. That something is almost part of being human, and I’m certain that will continue.”
- Sally Ride. Physicist and First American woman in space.
My name is Shanee Cowland (also known as Coach - more about that later). I am a teacher of middle school math and high school science at a Charter School in North Carolina. This website includes content for my students and others looking for Science and Math resources.
Teaching and learning are my passions. They have defined just about everything that I have ever done or wanted to do. The idea of being a life-learner is something that I preach, believe and practice. I don't believe that there you can ever learn enough. Through schools, experiences, relationships and travel people constantly learn, evolve and develop. I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of this transition with so many other young people in my profession.
As a student from an inner city public school and a graduate of public higher education, I am an ardent and vociferous advocate of public education. Education can (and does) make a huge difference in your life and it must be an opportunity that is available for all who want to take it. I am particularly passionate about science education (for that is my background) and I know that science has the means to take us where we want to go.
By learning and understanding the principles of cause and effect (the fundamental basis of science), we can teach the next generation of people to be more mindful of their actions than previous generations have been. I hope you enjoy reading articles or viewing videos on this blog.
